Back to my story!  If you recall, I went to see a guy who had his own domestic wind turbine.  I thought he had a used wind turbine but as it turns out he had actually built it himself!  I figured that if he could do it, I could.  So I got the link to the directions he bought and decided to try it  myself.

I thought these plans looked good and decided to pull the trigger and buy the plans.  They weren’t too expensive and there was a full money back guarantee so if I didn’t like it, I could just get a refund.  A complete no brainer.

I bought the course.  I couldn’t wait to build my own wind generator!  I downloaded the plans that night and read over them.  They seemed pretty straight forward and easy to follow.  There were a few videos included as well, and I watched those to get an idea of what I was in for.

Honestly, it looked pretty simple.  I spent the next week or so getting everything I would need to build a small wind turbine as a test.  I’m sure I could have gotten everything much quicker but I wasn’t in a big hurry.

I spent the weekend putting together a turbine.  It was really easy and I didn’t run into any real troubles.  I made a simple tower to put the wind generator on and I was off to the races!  My early tests showed that this new turbine was generating over 250W of power.

Well, I was really pleased with my first domestic wind turbine, and the price tag had come in just under $150 for the whole thing.  Not bad!  I plan to build a few more of these and have my own little windmill farm.  Here’s a picture of my home with the new turbine in action!

Oh, I forgot to mention.  Besides the DIY wind turbine plans, I also got plans for DIY solar cells for free!  I can’t wait to try them out!

Thanks for listening to my story, and if you have any questions feel free to email me and I’ll do my best to get back to you!  Good luck, and I hope you try to build your own wind power source.  If I can do it, you can!

So while I was looking for a great example of domestic wind turbine use, I ran into a guy on the Internet who lived a couple hours away from me.  He had a rather unique rooftop wind turbine installation and was willing to show me what he did.

I drove over to his place and took a look.  I was under the impression that he had a used wind turbine but it turns out I was wrong.  He had built a small wind turbine and created a custom rooftop mount for it.  This household wind turbine looked pretty darn good, and the work he did was top notch.  He said it wasn’t all that hard and that he really enjoyed the process.

By placing the wind generator on the roof, he was able to get the wind turbine above the turbulence level and that really optimized the power generation potential of his wind power system.

I decided I was going to look into that myself.  I knew I wanted a domestic wind turbine and maybe a rooftop wind turbine was the answer I was looking for!

Hey there, this is Richard.  I am writing this page to document my search for domestic wind turbine information.  While finding information on wind power in general was pretty straight forward, it was not quite so easy to find good information on wind turbines for the home.

It’s pretty clear that wind power has taken hold as a viable source of energy for our homes.  But most wind power comes from large farms of massive commercial grade wind turbines.  These are the big white (usually) wind mills you see driving down the highway slowly turning in the wind.

What isn’t quite as common is a small wind turbine that powers a home or something along those lines.  I’d be willing to bet that most of you haven’t even seen one.  We’re not talking about the wind mills you found on a farm somewhere.  Those were certainly wind power generators, but they used wind power to move water instead of generating electricity.

Anyhow, back to the topic at hand, I spent quite a long time looking for good domestic wind turbine data that was real, as opposed to industry hype.  This site is dedicated to what I found.
